K-12 Lesson Plans and Online Reading Comprehension

K-12 lesson plans must be created in detail to ensure that every aspect related to a child’s development is included as part of the curriculum. Like any other curriculum area, online reading comprehension is crucial in all grades and all subjects.

Let us examine the different aspects on K-12 lesson plans with the priority in online reading comprehension in all grades and all subjects.

Importance of reading comprehension

Reading comprehension develops the skill to provide the right way of acknowledging or understanding writing or a question put forward. This demands the child to develop the habit of reading early on in pre-kindergarten. Word recognition is always difficult during the early days of education.

Through the employment of the proper technique, children will be able to comprehend the essence of words effortlessly over the period of time. It is with this idea, that pre-kindergarten starts with phonics.

Reading comprehension strategies

A study by the U.S. National Reading Panel came to the conclusion that effective reading comprehension included an understanding of vocabulary, reading comprehension instruction based on reading strategies, followed by thorough and long practice of reading.

SQ3R strategy

Irrespective of the grade or subject, reading comprehension must follow a strategy called SQ3R, meaning Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review. While survey means a quick peep into the title and the various headings, question denotes trying to comprehend the idea projected by it. This must be followed by a detailed read, then reciting the summary in your memory, followed by your review of the content.

Following this pattern places a better understanding of the content projected by the article. The acceptance of this pattern in K-12 lesson plans can enhance the vocabulary and the reading skills of the children.

Online reading comprehension

Today online provides a platform for attaining reading comprehension for the children in all grades, irrespective of the subject under study. It offers the resources and strategies for teaching reading. Some of the websites are interactive websites with each catering to the different grades. They try to improve the reading comprehension of all subjects through activities, lessons, stories, etc. presented through e-books along with other teacher resources. The inclusion of study questions into online reading comprehension ensures a better understanding of the contents included.

A few online K-12 lesson plans come with worksheets, flashcards, curriculum guides, etc.; all free of cost. The regular updating of the K-12 lesson plans make it highly effective and successful. Besides with the lessons based on the grade of the children, it offers ease of understanding and access.
