If you’re trying to learn how to deal with gifted children, then this is the best place to be.
Here you’ll get some tips on this so that you know you’re giving that gifted child of yours the best learning experiences so they reach their full potential.
You need to get your children that are gifted involved with the gifted programs that their schools have set up.
If your kid is in a public school that doesn’t have a gifted program, then it may be up to you to get them to a better school that will actually challenge them. That, or you may want to ask if they can skip ahead a few grades since what they’re currently learning in their age group will be too basic for them. Whatever you do, don’t allow the child to get too bored with things they find too easy.
Get people in the child’s life that knows how to deal with gifted children.
There’s no reason why you should have the child hanging around with people that don’t stimulate their mind to learn new things. Generally it’s best to just make sure the child doesn’t feel too outside of normal kids, but they do need to be challenged. You don’t want to make it a point to tell them they’re different at every turn, but you do want to let people around them know that they are gifted and you’d appreciate it if they were treated as if they were.
Let the child guide you on how they enjoy being taught if you’re really not having success with things like book learning.
For instance, you may notice that the child is wanting to draw and color all the time, then that probably means they’re more of a visual learner. You would then want to create a lesson plan at home that has them using visual aids instead of a bunch of repetitive tasks like writing the same letter over and over. Be creative with how you teach and a gifted child will have a lot better of a time.
Be as patient as you can when you’re dealing with gifted children.
You’re not going to get anywhere if you try to rush them through things and aren’t able to be patient with them. If you try too hard to get them to pick up on things you know they can learn, they may start to get stressed. When learning is associated with stress, then the child may end up shying away from what they need to do. Just let them guide you and only do things that you know they are comfortable with when you first get started.
Learning how deal with gifted children isn’t all that hard because you’re able to use the tips you were given here. It’s going to take a lot of time and caring, but you’ll be happy with the results. Make sure you do extra research if you’re still unclear on anything.
