The emotional trauma that students feel is very prominent if there is some disturbance at home. There are all sorts of reasons why children misbehave during holiday times.
When students are home during holidays, many times there is not much to do. The students do not know how to pass their time. Many times boredom is reflected in their activity and they become violent. If both the parents are working and not at home, then it becomes all the more difficult for the student to adjust to life. During school days there is so much more activity and they interact with each other. During the holidays the child becomes lonely, if everyone else has gone away on holiday.
The child generally tells the parents only the good things about school but doesn’t share the bad things. In such cases the parents should try to connect with the child and know all about the daily activities of the school.Try to find out about the problems that the child is facing in school. You should give your time to the child so that can you listen to all their problems. If the student has someone to listen to, without judging, then many times the tension or the crisis is defused or averted. The tension results in frustrated behavior by the student.
Trying to make your child what he/she cannot become is a mistake that many parents make. You cannot try to judge your child on the basis of other students. You have to judge your child on his/her own strength and weaknesses. Many times pushing and motivating and having high expectations can lead students to anxiety and depression and this behavior will be more prominent during holidays.
The stress felt by students during the holidays is often inevitable due to additional burden on their time that can make them feel restless or even disheartened. The students should be involved in many activities that can be done with family or friends. With the help of these activities the students can experience more joy, calmness and relaxation. The activities should make the student relaxed so that they can focus on enjoyment.
There are many online counseling centers (Teen Central Net, Teen Line, United States National Suicide & Crisis Hotlines, Teen Help, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Boys Town Hotline) for students for crisis during holidays. You can contact them and give them the details and you will get your feedback through email.
Talking to other parents will also sometimes act as a stress buster with the child. You can call the parents of your child’s best friend and from that feedback you will be able to avert the crisis.
