Skill at home is the capacity to carry out already known results often with the minimum outlay of time and energy at one’s place of residence. They can often be subdivided into two categories- domain-general and domain-specific skills.
For example, in the domain of work, some specific skills include time management, teamwork and leadership, self motivation and so on, whereas domain-specific skills would be useful only for a certain particular job. Skill usually requires some environmental provocation and measures to assess the level of skill being shown and used. Skill at home may come under both categories.
People need a broad range of skills in order to contribute to a modern economy and take their place in the today’s society. One important purpose of homeschooling is to help kids develop any particular skill at home which they would otherwise be unable to develop in the regular public schooling system. We can consider the example of children suffering from a disability. It is often hard for the child to study in a regular public school. They are unable grasp knowledge very easily and hence they are left behind the curriculum. For them homeschooling would be the best option. They can develop their knowledge and any other required skill at home and thus become ready to face the world like any other kid.
