How to decide activities for gifted and talented students.
Having an encounter with a gifted or talented child is a memorable experience. If you are not dazzled by the number-crunching ability of this youngster, then their vastly impressive vocabulary will leave you stunned.
That is the nature of the special ones. Without any surprise, this feeling is also reflected in the activities for gifted and talented students.
For teachers of the gifted and talented, the job is not a joking matter at all, as most of these special students have boundless and restless energy. Many of them bubble with with excitement at the thought of learning something new!
As a result of the fact that their brains are usually more advanced than the normal school curriculum, the children become bored with a school curriculum that poses little or no challenge.
Classwork is quickly finished thus leaving them with ample time to perhaps disturb the class. Therefore, it becomes imperative to have specifically, engaging activities for gifted and talented students.
These activities may not actually be too complicated to arrange. Since the gifted and talented usually have excessive energy and excitement, the efficient thing to do is to ensure that this excessive brainpower is channeled in some other intellectual tasks and activities, which are for the gifted and talented only.
One very common thing to do this is to organize competitions between these pupils. Apart from the fact that it promotes bonding, competitions also sharpen the intellect.
In addition to organizing competitions, other activities for the gifted and talented students include peer tutoring and mentoring. In this type of activity, the gifted and talented students are asked to teach their peers or entertain the class with their dazzling skills such as music or painting. Questions, which are slightly harder than normal, can also be reserved for them to answer.
