Schools today want to keep the achievement of the children high, especially before a holiday break. The excitement of the holidays makes the students eager to enjoy their holidays and so they are not able to concentrate on their work.
Engagement of the students in activities of their interest will allow them to be more receptive toward the lessons. If the school is closing for Christmas break, then the teacher should engage in activities related to Christmas. There will be excitement amongst the students and they will try to participate fully in such activity.
A teacher should engage in an activity in which the students are interested. If the students are not interested in a subject you won’t be able to keep their mind on such activity. So take an interesting subject like the holiday activities. This will inspire them and make them more responsive.
You can ask the children to create their own games which will interest them. With the help of these games they can apply their skills, like they can play word games. In a word game they can learn new words and their spelling. It will increase their vocabulary. In the same way they can solve puzzles. Solving simple puzzles will improve their calculation power.
You can make games like a treasure hunt and then you can teach them about the directions. It will improve their geographical knowledge. You can include drawings of the sun, moon, stars and constellations. It will be like an astronomy class for them. Taking a field trip in nearby areas will keep the students enthralled and involved.
Teaching about different fruits and vegetables in the class and incorporating the idea practically in the class by becoming a vegetable seller will surely keep them attentive in the class. You have to be inventive to keep the mind of the students occupied. Treat them to some real life adventures and games, they are sure to enjoy them and will also learn lessons in the process.
Just before the vacation students become hyperactive. To control this activeness you have to be in the same league as them. Making a collage of the holiday season is a sure way to keep them occupied. You can base the collage on the theme of the holiday. If it is Easter break, then make the collage based on an Easter theme.
The active participation of the teacher is a must to make any project successful. If you are successful you can make the students so enthralled with activities that they won’t feel like going on vacation!
