Obesity is a like an epidemic and it has spread across the world. Obesity in teens is a common thing to see and hear about. Most of the teens lead an undisciplined and rather reckless life. It is their lifestyle that makes them obese and exposes them to further ailments.
Reasons for Obesity
Teens are highly exposed to television commercials that advertise junk foods, which taste great. They are easily tempted by these foods and they just give in to them, leading to bulging belly lines. Sometimes, the parents, too, are obese who survive on greasy foods and this in turn influences the children to a great extent. They copy the bad eating habits of their parents and become obese too.
Psychological stress is another cause of obesity. When a teen is subjected to the parents’ quarrels or separation, it takes a toll on their minds and they turn to greasy foods which work as a stress buster for them. Lack of the most elementary parental control on these teens lead them to an undisciplined life and they fall prey to bad eating habits.
How to Control Obesity
To start with, proper attention by parents is most important. Teens need love and care and they should never be made to feel unwanted. Healthy family relationships can make them happy and keep them away from unhealthy eating habits. Seek medical help for your teen too if you want them to combat obesity. Clinical care and psychotherapy work best for children. Let your teen consult a nutritional expert if necessary. The most important thing is family support so that your teen feels safe in the comfort of their parent’s care. Remember, the teenage years are vulnerable to obesity, which can even turn fatal. Take precautions before your child is exposed to serious risks.
